Apr 2013 - Bristol Lib Dems speak against "Bedroom Tax"

The Bristol Lib Dem group leader Cllr Tim Kent has written to Welfare Minister Iain Duncan Smith, calling for the proposed under-occupancy rule to be scrapped.

The letter said he and his colleagues understood the problem of under-occupancy, as many families are affected by overcrowding or left on waiting lists with poor prospects of finding a home big enough, and he said his group recognised the need for reform of the rules.

But the reality is that there aren't currently anywhere near enough homes available for people to downsize into, and so many are effectively trapped in homes with spare bedrooms. It is totally unfair to penalise people in that situation.
