19 Apr 2017 – Dr Mark Wright steps down as Bristol South candidate

Dr Mark Wright, who has been the Lib Dems Bristol South parliamentary campaigner for over a decade, has announced that he is stepping down as parliamentary candidate. Mark fought the 2010 and 2015 general elections in Bristol South, but says that Theresa May's shock general election comes at an impossible time for him. Mark says:

"I became a father last month and am currently knee-deep in tiny nappies! Being a candidate in a General Election is a huge job that eats up months of time, and there's no way I can do that while taking care of a newborn. I will pass on the baton of Bristol South Lib Dem campaigner to someone else in our very able team of experienced campaigners."

"The election result here in 2015 was an aberration, caused by hostility to the Coalition government's attempts to balance the deficit, and it should not be considered the starting-point for the new election. Instead, the 2010 result, where I nearly won the seat off Labour, is a better indication of how this seat can go."

"If you want to avoid a disastrous Hard Brexit. If you want to keep Britain in the single market. If you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, this is your chance."
